Today's blues lick is in the key of E and uses the E minor pentatonic scale. Here it is:
e---------------------------------
B---------------------------------
G---------------------------------
D-------5--7s9--9p7s5--7p5--------
A--5s7-------------------------7--
E---------------------------7-----
The lick plays around the root E note at the 7th fret of the 5th string. It uses a series of slides and pull-offs to create an interesting sound while using only three notes, the minor 3rd, 4th and 5th of the scale.
The B played on the 6th string at the end of the lick leads naturally to the final root E. It gives the lick a feeling of coming to rest. Try skipping this note to hear the difference it makes. You can choose to play it or leave it out as you like.
