Today's post for beginner guitar players gives you 85 songs you can play on your guitar with just two easy chords.
First up is a list of 73 songs from Dr. Banjo. These folk, country and bluegrass songs all use a I chord with either the IV or V chord. You can even use them to train your ear to figure out what chord to play.
The songwriter's over at Blogging Muses offer you this list of 12 songs. With titles from Bob Marley, Nirvana and Bruce Springsteen, among others, there should be something for all tastes there.
That's 85 two chord songs in total. For the over-achievers among you here is a special bonus, more two chord songs to play.
- Donovan, Goldwatch Blues
- John Lennon, Working Class Hero
- Oasis, Songbird
- The Beatles, Paperback Writer

78 songs! That's quite a list. I think this is a great idea for beginners to get stuck into some songs even when they only know a couple chords. This is also great for songwriters struggling to come up with any ideas. A nice reminder that you can create a wide range of interesting songs with a limited number of chords.
Hi Aaron, Thanks for commenting. Love your tempo music cards, they look like a great idea too.
Not to be a buzz-kill but... Working Class Hero has a D in the middle of the chorus. The rest is Am & G but D would make it a three chord song.
@Sean - Indeed, well spotted. The occasional third chord can appear in some of these songs. In the case of Working Class Hero you can just bash away on the open D string, and still play the rest with only 2 chords :-)
